Privacy Policy
Last updated 12 August 2026. This policy covers every Nightshade app and nightshade.software, published by Applied Science Group.
The short version
Camera frames are analysed on your device and thrown away. They are never uploaded, never stored, and never seen by us or anyone else. There is no account. The apps work with no network connection at all.
What the camera does
While a session is running, the app reads the front camera to measure whether your eyes are open, how long blinks last, whether you are yawning and where your head is pointing. That measurement happens in memory, frame by frame. No image or video is written to storage or transmitted. Turning detection off in Settings stops the camera entirely.
What is stored on your device
- Session records: start and end time, and events such as drowsy or asleep episodes.
- Daily alertness summaries and streaks.
- Your calibration baseline and settings.
- Your purchase status.
This lives in a database on your phone. Deleting the app deletes it.
Optional analytics
You may opt in to anonymous usage analytics during onboarding. It is off unless you switch it on. If you do, the app sends event names — a session started, an alarm fired, a purchase screen was shown — with no personal identifiers and no camera data whatsoever. You can turn it off at any time in Settings. If you leave it off, the app makes no network requests.
Purchases
Payment is handled by Apple or Google. We never see your card. We receive only whether a purchase is active.
Nightshade Fleet
Fleet is different and is disclosed separately in the app. Where an employer deploys Fleet, the driver's app transmits state changes — awake, drowsy, distracted — plus break timers and battery level, to that employer's dashboard. Video is never transmitted in Fleet either. Consumer apps transmit nothing.
Children
Nightshade is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect any information from them.
Your rights
Because your data never leaves your device, we hold nothing to disclose, correct or delete. Deleting the app is a complete erasure. If you opted in to analytics and want those events removed, write to [email protected].
Changes
Material changes will be announced in the app before they take effect.
